Starting this month, I will be posting on the new series – The Minor Arcana. So far we have covered the Major Arcana from The Fool to The World Card – i.e, all twenty-two cards. The next part in the Tarot comes from the Minor Arcana that forms the other 56 cards in the 78 cards Tarot set. I will be dividing them into two that of Aces to ten and the Court Cards.
So what is the Minor Arcana? While the major arcana expresses universal themes, the minor arcana brings those themes down into the practical arena to show how they operate in daily events. The minor arcana cards represent the concerns, activities, and emotions that make up the dramas of our everyday lives. There are 56 cards in the minor arcana divided into four suits: Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles. Each of these suits stands for a particular approach to life.
Wands: They are traditionally associated with the element of fire. These suits represent growth, creativity, work and enterprise. It is masculine and heavily influenced by the Zodiac signs Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius.
Cups: They relate to the element of water and represent emotions, feelings, love or relations. Mostly the matter of hearts. It is feminine and is influenced by the Zodiac signs Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces.
Swords: They are associated with the element of Air and relates to mental activity, strife, and troubles, intellect, thought and reason. It is masculine and is influenced by the Zodiac Signs Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius.
Pentacles: They relate to the element of Earth and is associated with Money, prosperity, land, practicality, security and material concerns. They are a feminine suit and is influenced by the Zodiac signs Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn.
Each suit in the Minor Arcana consists of fourteen Tarot cards, including ten numbered cards (Ace through to Ten) and four Court Cards (the Page, Knight, Queen, and King). The numbered Tarot cards reflect everyday life situations while the Tarot Court Cards reflect personality-types or actual people. Therefore, the Minor Arcana highlight the more practical aspects of life and can refer to current issues that have a temporary or minor influence.
Finally, If a Tarot reading is predominantly made up of the Minor Arcana cards, you are dealing with day-to-day issues which will not necessarily be having a lasting influence on your life. These issues are passing through, presenting you with an opportunity to learn from these experiences.
We will start the Minor Arcana Series with the Aces.
